RECLAIM YOUR WRITING POWER

book a workshop with word artist Melissa Pouliot

Words have power.

They persuade, convince, sell, entice, entertain, and most importantly – they change lives. In Melissa’s case, words in her bestselling crime novels helped solve one of Australia’s most baffling cold case mysteries.

Genuine connections and communication are what keeps rural and regional communities and businesses thriving. Let’s not give our power and what makes us unique to a computer that mines words and spits them back at us full of Americanisms, cliches and poor punctuation.

Join Melissa at her writing table. She will teach you how to unlock your own talent to write for a community project, your business, that book you have in you, your family history, a wedding speech, an obituary, a media release, a social media post, a website, blog or assignment.

Reclaim your writing power today

Using words to make sense of life is something Melissa specialises in.

Over a five-year period she wrote around one million words as part of an intense effort to discover the truth about her cousin Ursula Barwick’s disappearance in 1987.

Most of these words were fictional, made-up stories, made up characters, made up storylines that she put into bestselling crime novels. Writing was Melissa’s way of trying to make sense of the ambiguous loss she had been holding in her busy brain for several decades since she was 15.

After 30 years, Ursula was found, proving that words have power.

Melissa is blessed to have the knowledge, confidence and understanding of the power of writing but not everyone has this.

Expressions of interest for workshops in rural and regional Australia open!

Melissa grew up in and has lived in rural communities her whole life, and experienced first-hand the lack of specialist, professional training on offer and having to travel to metropolitan areas to stimulate, train and reclaim her brain.

Yes, there are a lot of online training courses available but to be truthful, there is nothing more powerful than genuine, human, face-to-face interaction.

Melissa doesn’t want people in rural communities to have the burden of travel or to be learning about writing online – she has almost three decades of writing power experience and is excited to be helping others Reclaim their writing power. She also loves a road trip!

It’s time to reclaim your brains and stop giving the power to computers who will never, ever understand your human experience.

“Delighted to hear my words are landing and more so, that you’re embarking on workshops to help people in rural communities who have so little access to in person guidance. Thank you for your leadership!” Margie Warrell

When you book Melissa Pouliot for a workshop, your brain will be so fired up you will be ready the conquer the world.

Melissa sees the potential in everything and helps others see it too.

She has been a word artist and storyteller her entire life, with her first story published in her local newspaper at just eight years old when she wrote clear instructions for Santa to get into houses without chimneys to deliver presents.

Words have served her well in a fast-paced, self-driven media marketing career that has taken her into isolated rural communities in outback Queensland, the tiny town where the much-loved television series The Flying Doctors was filmed, to the Back O’ Bourke and the Far South Coast of NSW.

The more she wrote, the better her words became. After being encouraged at school to write long, flowery sentences that built towards a crescendo, die-hard rural newspaper editors who ruled words with an iron fist taught her to keep it simple stupid (KISS KISS), get straight to the point and fit the story into the first three sentences.

No embellishment, no assumptions. Clear, direct, factual writing.

When Melissa took a leap of faith to start her own media company at just 27 with a brand new baby to create her own marketing and advertising business she brought the KISS principles and word iron fist with her.

    New words kept flowing.

Everything someone asked her to do, she’d say yes. Because she knew that no matter what project or task was required, the words would guide her.
