For almost three decades, Melissa has been helping business owners, project managers, community leaders and everyday people in rural and regional Australia understand who they are, what they do, why they do it. She also helped lead a whole community to choosing the right bin in one of Australia’s most successful and groundbreaking waste management campaigns. AND she’s a bestselling author, a leading voice for missing people and child safety and gathered donations of over $100,000 of new books to gift back to her local community devastated by fire.

In a world of relentless AI intrusion, Melissa writes real words and tells real stories – even her bestselling crime novels are grounded in reality.

Melissa’s writing will have a long-lasting impact on Australian literary life.

Using words to make sense of life is something Melissa specialises in.

Over a five-year period she wrote around one million words as part of an intense effort to discover the truth about her cousin Ursula Barwick’s disappearance in 1987.

Most of these words were fictional, made-up stories, made up characters, made up storylines that she put into bestselling crime novels. Writing was Melissa’s way of trying to make sense of the ambiguous loss she had been holding in her busy brain for several decades since she was 15.

After 30 years, Ursula was found, proving that words have power.

“Ursula had been missing for 30 years before being found, and Melissa’s concentrated drive over a five-year period to find her family answers through storytelling, the media and close collaboration across relevant agencies is a testament to her initiative and commitment.” Marina Simoncini, Australian Federal Police

Melissa sees the potential in everything and helps others see it too.

Melissa lives, works, breathes and adventures in rural and regional Australia. Her work is strongly community-based – real stories, real people, real news.

She lives and breathes genuine connections and communication. These are what keep rural and regional communities and businesses thriving.

Melissa’s written ability, not only as an author, but in respect to media pieces and corporate briefs, is exceptional – Marina Simoncini, AFP

Her natural, down-to-earth presenting style and workshops inspire people to not only strive to be better, but to take what they’ve learnt to completely change their lives.

Let’s not give the power and what makes you unique to a computer that mines words and spits them back at us full of Americanisms, cliches and poor punctuation.

WRITE A BOOK

When you book Melissa Pouliot for a book writing workshop, your brain will be so fired up you will be ready the conquer the world and finish that book!

She has been a word artist and storyteller her entire life, with her first story published in her local newspaper at just eight years old when she wrote clear instructions for Santa to get into houses without chimneys to deliver presents.

Words have served her well in a fast-paced, self-driven media marketing career that has taken her into isolated rural communities in outback Queensland, the tiny town where the much-loved television series The Flying Doctors was filmed, to the Back O’ Bourke and the Far South Coast of NSW.

The more she wrote, the better her words became.

Now it’s time for her to pass this knowledge, experience and passion for writing onto others.

You are invited to join Melissa at her writing table. It will be fun!
